Rookie Looks To S15
It's been a tough couple of weeks for high-rising British rookie Jay Wellington, who has seen himself spiral down the Rookie Series standings faster than his F3 chassis can carry him, dropping from a lofty 16th at the mid-way point to the "also-rans" a long, long way down the order.
Today's event at Catalunya proved to be probably the shortest in MRC history as Wellington retired on the pit straight, mere seconds into the race broadcast.
"I think we can comfortably draw the curtain on this season..." said Jay, who has DNF'd five of the last eight series races.
"Thankfully we're not holding on too preciously to this seasons results, it was always about training which we have done plenty of, but everyone here races for results, we've had great successes in singles and Custom which is encouraging, but series is what matters. I don't know what happened today, the car just gave up off the line, data reads an overall mechanical fail, so who knows!?"
Manager Adamski addressed questions about what we can expect from Welly next season...
"A new car for one, new sponsors and a new livery a long way from our usual design. We're still keeping the Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Lotus in the garage for another season as the Private scene is still above us i feel..."
"We've been asked a lot if we're heading to Australia for the V8's, but we're an independent team and Jay is young, the budget won't stretch that far as yet. But we'll keep a very close eye, as we're keen to roll up there one day! F3 National seems the logical choice, there's a great field spread in the lower series now with the launch of four new tin-top diciplines. Naturally we're looking at following our history carved by Ray Striver in F3 Britain, or Australia, but these entry lists are persistently evolving, we'll go where we can take the best prize money frankly. At this stage we need the results..."
So a promising season becomes a write off for an early charger. Owing to both misfortune and inexperience. Hopefully Season 15 will bring more success for this new generation Wellington".
