Earlier today the 14th race of the Indy Junior International series was run. And as the race finished, it was Saler who finished first and scored another victory. With this win Saler has won the series with two races still to go. Behind Saler it was Lyn Vos and Marko Vukoviic who took second and third. For both youngsters it was the first time to claim a podium in an Indy race.
“I'm over the moon.” The Dutch driver proclaimed when it was her time to speak to the press. “This result means so much to me and my team. Thanks to Marko it wasn't a boring race for me either. I really had to push hard to stay ahead of him.”
When asked about Saler's win, Lyn smiled. “He deserved it. Saler took pole position every race. And as usual, he was fast today. I just couldn't match his pace. And then I made a few mistakes that made me fall back even further. I wish I could have challenged him more, it would have made for a better show. But I think Saler and his fans will forgive me for not keeping up.”
But Imola wasn't the only race where Lyn finished 2nd. In Santa Fe it looked like Lyn was going to claim her first ever victory. But with five laps left Michael Monroe hit her car as he was trying to overtake her. The impact severely damaged Lyn's car and in the next lap he overtook her and went on to win the race.
“I'm not overly upset with Michael.” Lyn told the press. “You can hardly expect him to just stay behind me without trying anything. I could tell that he didn't intend to hit my car. I would have loved to claim my first victory in Santa Fe. But... there'll be other opportunities."
