Lehdistötiedotteet - Serious Crazy Torque

Serious Crazy Torque

In their first joint event since coining the team name. The Crazy Torque boys are off to a serious flyer.

Entrants number 29 and 30/30 into Hungarian Custom Championship, Biguel Maines made the initial statement of intent lining up on the front row alongside series ranking leader, Germany's Carlos Emunds at Pannonia whilst a rare double mistake during qualifying saw Ray Striver down in 9th with work to do.

Fortunes changed dramatically for Race 1 as Striver cut through the field fast but was denied a wheel to wheel with his co-patriot as Maines suffered an unjust DNF, promoting Ray to the podium.

Race 2 was nothing short of a masterclass...

Starting 3rd Ray jumped straight up to 2nd and sat on Emunds gearbox biding time. Maines - starting 21st - was powering through the field, light on fuel and aggressive on tyres and was bothering the top 10 before his first stop relegated him in to the pack.
At the front, Striver seized the opportunity as Carlos made a sizeable error and took the lead, pulling an impressive 0.700 per lap before the pair stopped within a few laps of each other. The lead was short lived though as Ray got crossed up in clear air and lost the top spot to the chasing German.

The two then set about putting on a show, trading fastest laps and pass after pass while lapping slower traffic in a proper old school on-track battle.

Maines however was rolling the dice taking opportunities and overtaking for fun on his two-stop strategy as manager iHealy's gamble looked to be paying off big time.

Regrettably the latter stages of the race were cruel for Ray in the #10 chassis as he lost time with his second big error, costing him the lead and maximum points as Emunds made it a perfect weekend, winning both races from pole.

So who was 3rd across the line? Crazy Torque's Biguel Maines in the #11 car! A sensational drive and strategy saw him jump from 21st to 3rd in what has been a monumental weekend as the team share 48pts between their drivers!

"I didn't even know until i saw the timing screen!" said Ray.
Then up strolls Biggs eating chicken wings holding his 3rd place race cap! I had no idea, we were so embroiled in our own race with Carlos we didn't realise what had happened behind. I knew we battled through a lot of back-markers... but to lap 26 other guys on our way to the podium is certainly something we'd never have dreamed of.

The short, six race series moves on to Euro-Ring tomorrow and Striver will be looking to continue his dominant run at the circuit.

"We've won here several times starting back in Rookie. All in all i hope we can repeat such exquisite racing with Carlos and we won't have any reliability issues or dramas affecting the outcome".
