Indy Jr Intl - Season Review

In a Season dominated by one driver, the final points tally paints a different story for the Indy Jr International Series.

With D. Vanderpuije taking a substantial seven wins and a further three goin to D. Dan it took two wins and six 2nd places for Guy Wellington to get amongst them. In an end-of-season flourish that saw him win back-to-back races in Greece and on home soil in his first win in the UK, Wellington clawed his way to 2nd place in a season long battle with Dan for runner-up which went down to the wire.

Despite his apparent dominance in the wins column, Vanderpuije only took the title with a 46pt gap on 586 over Wellington on 540 and Dan on 483 which capped Wellingtons most successful season to date. All three will make an appearance in the upcoming Trophy Of Champions.

Wellingtons co-patriot Miguel Baines managed to finish 8th in the standings, though its widely believed he'd be competing in the top three were it not for an unbelievably unfortunate run of mechanical failures in the opening half of the season.

Wins were also claimed by J. Ort, L. Lacko and K. Blesk in a highly competative season that saw six different drivers take the top step!

Trophy of Champions is sure to be tough, but will undoubtedly be a learning experience for Wellington having missed out last season. Defending the UK #1 spot from the chasing Miguel Baines remains the key focus for next season, along with breaking into the World Top 20.

Staying in Indy for a 3rd year or returning to F2 is yet to be decided.
