What a way to start a comeback
Late 2016 and early 2017 has not been kind for Louis "The Lip" Gagliano. Off track accidents, combined with medical difficulties limited not only how many races he ran but forced him to run a more conservative style than he was use to or wanted to get use to.
Finally being cleared by the protocol doctors this weekend he was allowed to resume full racing with no restrictions. It didn't take long for "The itch" as he called it to return. At the Fontana Sports Car course in San Bernadino, CA his wreckless abandon was on full display finishing 2nd in qualifying behind Steve Villeneuve. For the first 16 (of 33) laps "The Lip" played follow the leader behind the pole sitter. However after the leader had to leave the race "The Lip" Took over and never looked back winning the race by 29.5 seconds.
Catching a quick flight he touched down at the Road America course in Elkhart Lake Wisc where he easily captured the pole position by almost half a second over Matthew Pierce. The race was by comparison almost anitclimatic as the Longmont Colorado driver with only a couple of time nearly being overtaken won by 10.4 seconds to claim his 2nd victory of the day.
"The Lip" spoke after the 2nd victory in his usual with the usual bravado and at times cockiness we have come to expect..
"Its (Bleep)ing awesome to finally let loose today. I was afraid that the time away would destroy my timing. Now I don't expect the races to get (bleep) easier. Still this was good. I still have a lot to learn. However these wins are tasting pretty (bleep) sweet. Thanks to my crew for keeping the car strong during my recovery. They are as much a reasons for the wins as anything I did on the track today
