Comunicados de Prensa - Laine leaves Williams

Laine leaves Williams

After his 6th season in F1 series driving for Williams, Teemu Laine has decided to quit his career in the team. During his Williams career he scored 19 points, excluding the ongoing season. He was always a grinder type of driver, not exceptionally outstanding at any area, but not bad at anything either. Definitely two of his greatest moments in F1 took place on season 11, when he finished 8th in Monaco and 6th in Abu Dhabi.

We weren’t able to reach himself to give his comments, but we had a small chat with the Williams’ team manager and the major shareholder, looni.

Q: So… after all these years why did you decide to go in different directions?

A: This is the best for both parts of the deal. Laine was talking retirement and we had a promising newcomer that is interested to get into the series. Laine knows that his best days are long gone and that it is time to step down. Now I feel quite nostalgic about it, as he was the first driver to ever finish in top 10 with our car on season 9. It has been a long way

Q: You mentioned a newcomer?

A: Yes. We have signed a contract with Pentti Lund. During the current season Lund has shown a great potential winning 7/10 races in DTWS. He is now ready to take the last long step to the highest series around. I feel that he will be able to give us the last necessary push to break to even the game with Senna, BMW and Audi. We’re looking forward to see Lund racing up against those guys and squeeze a few points more for the team.

During the brief interview visibly stressed looni said that he had to go and told that sketching up a development & financial plan for the next two seasons has been harder than ever. Getting Lund on board will surely be of help.
