Comunicados de Prensa - Rage wasn't Torquing Crazy after all
Rage wasn't Torquing Crazy after all
This time last year there was a bit of a commotion around a group of young drivers setting themselves up as a team, getting organised and talking big. That team was of course Rage Motorsports.
Even before the season started they were talking big claiming that the current F3 American Champ who dominated in s9 wasn't going to retain his title.
Other young drivers looked on in awe and even the feathers of more experienced drivers were ruffled a little. one even famously said
'I do hope for the best for them all but take Bennett for example who hasn't even registered a win in his career so far... Key to being a winner is winning.'
So here we are a year later, and how did the Rage drivers get on?
Well for a start they took the advice given to them by iHealy, not only did they take all 10 of the pole positions they also won 17 of the 20 races - Bennett taking 8 of those wins.
The final standings in the series are pretty much what Rage predicted.
1. Bennett 794
2. Knight 727
3. Wayne 675
4. Wheeler 650
5. Hansson 587
So despite more then their fair share of DNF's they ended up 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th and in their first season as a team dominated proceedings in F3 America.
So whats next for the Rage Motorsports Team?
We sent our Reporter Will Gates to Laguna Seca to find out.
WG: I'm in the pitlane looking for the Rage Motorsports garage, Its late now and there's very few people here - oh wait i hear some Music...yes i see the Rage drivers now, Guys any chance of a quick word?
Wheeler: Sure man, come in - you want a drink?
WG: no thanks Nick, how are you feeling after the race and now the series is over?
Wheeler: I'm good man, I came 8th today after a tyre mixup - but still finished overall 4th in the Series - Normally i'm not happy with anything but 1st, but if you are gonna get beat make sure its a friend that does it!
WG: Talking of friends, someone is missing? Where's Knight?
Wayne: Ah, well yeah, after his third DNF in a row he left man - it was like this, he started at the back, then made up 16 places, on the 17th pass the was contact and he was out. It was still the First lap FFS. I hear he was heading home before we finished lap 2.
WG: thats rotten luck, sounds like it might have been an eventful race - but you seemed to have it a little quieter?
Wayne: yeah, usual sorta race for me, head down and get to the end, I probably could have pushed harder and passed Hansson but i only had a slender lead over Nick in the Series so i wanted to get as many points as possible.
Bennett: Thats Wayne, always thinking - and always finishing!
WG: Not like your last race Drummond.
Bennett: no, i did finish that one, albeit last of the guys still going but I made a nice recovery today - 22 places over the course of the race.
WG: and more to the point you secured the title - I assume you are happy with that?
Bennett: Hell yeah, I knew we were 1,2,3,4 in the series no matter what just wasn't sure of the order. I'd have liked to have had more of a race with Brandon, but maybe next season!
WG: and where will you be racing next season?
Bennett: (with a wry Grin) Oh Will, haven't you heard? we are contesting the F3 Scotland Series.
WG: Wait, theres a Scottish Series?
Wheeler: Ignore him Will, he's pulling your leg - we are going to the F3 Vatican Series
Wayne: Or Hawaii - lets do Hawaii!
WG: Ok, ok i take the hint - but gimme a call when you decide!
Well, they seem 3/4 happy - I'm glad they've had a good race and a good season!
Rage? More calm than rage here!
Biguel Maines has laughed away this fighting talk of new found team Rage consisting of 4 members. "They have formed a team which will not be able to compete in the limelight and will be heading back to rookie next season to try and remember ...
