Comunicados de Prensa - Another Nurburgring podium for Peters

Another Nurburgring podium for Peters

Brisbane-based rookie racer Steve Peters has continued his competitive performance in this seasons rookie series, coming in second in a rain-soaked Nurburgring race even after a lap 31 shunt with a Giacomo Losi who was pushing a bit too hard to retain position from a hard-charging Peters. "We went into the Nurburgring rookie races on the back foot", Peters confided shortly after the race. "We relied too much on our previous experience of this track in our initial setup and this saw us not particularly competitive in qualifying - as a consequence we only came in 8th in the first race and we were happy to get things turned around for the second race. The tangle with Losi wasn't welcome, but I think I am starting to get his measure!"

"The wet conditions appeared to play to Steve's strengths", stated race engineer Bert Fowler. "There are some fast young racers even amongst the rookies, but Steve's relative patience paid off with a few of the fast young guys pushing a bit too hard and coming off".

Elsewhere, Peters had a promising start to Africa Cup XXXV with a 9th and 8th in the two Marrakesh races, although he was less competitive in the second meet at Baobas. Steve Peters' DNF in the second Baobas event after acollision caused by a clumsy attempt to resist a Guido Da Tempo overtake was uncharacteristically hot-headed and has caused some soul-searching at Blue Goat Racing - as well as attracting unwelcome attention from the Baobas stewards.

Peter's results in single races have been mixed, with top ten results at Vallelunga and Adelaide being the recent highlights. "We are really happy with how Steve's race pace is progressing, but we do seem to be struggling with qualifying even when we are producing solid times in free practice," mused Blue Goat Racing's technical coach, Bruce Newton. "The whole team is working hard to solve this problem and get Steve further up the grid, but it's obvious that we aren't there yet." While Steve Peters may still have his sights for season 9 set on the Australian F3 series, the Queensland-based team has some more work to do to see Peters in a position to be competitive next season.
