Road Rage Mag: Luso-Brazilian Championship Coverage

Road Rage Mag is proudly covering the Luso-Brazilian Unnoficial Championship Cup. This is the second time that cup manager Zeh forms a partnership with Blazefp to run this cup. The first cup winner was Portugal's very own Francisco Pires, he who is trying to repeat this season, and his well on it's way to do so I may add. The championship is already on it’s final stage and we here in Road Rage thought it would nice to keep everyone up to par with what has happened so far, but before letting you all know how that is going let me tell you guys who and how the drivers got to this stage.

The championship started with 23 drivers partaking in it. Two groups were created to make sure everyone had a chance to enter the selected races. One group with 12 drivers (Group A) and the other with 11 (Group B). Then and because there were no late entries, the top 6 from each group would advance after a 10 races pre-championship to determine and select the 12 strongest drivers. So after those 10 races we had the following drivers advancing…

#1 Francisco Pires [POR] - 190 Points (Group A)
#2 Luis Custódio [POR] - 134 Points (Group B)
#3 Fabricio Cruz [POR] - 119 Points (Group B)
#4 Leonardo Aquino [BRA] - 102 Points (Group B)
#5 Carlos Silva [POR] - 101 Points (Group B)
#6 Jose Oliveira [BRA] - 92 Points (Group B)
#7 Rui B. Martins [POR] - 91 Points (Group A)
#8 Serg Stan [POR] - 91 Points (Group A)
#9 Pedro Gomes [POR] - 78 Points (Group B)
#10 Breno Augusto [BRA] - 72 Points (Group A)
#11 Luis Afonso [POR] - 60 Points (Group A)
#12 Nuno Henriques [POR] - 57 Points (Group A)

In group A the veteran Francisco Pires dominated every race and it was with no suprise that he qualified for the final stage with almost 100 points lead over the second best in his group (Rui B. Martins). In Group B things were much more interesting, with 4 drivers getting over the 100 point benchmark and fighting for the victory in that group until the last race, in the end upcoming driver Luis Custódio emerged as the #1 driver in the group, but things were very close. There were quite a few suprises during the corse of these 10 races, many newcomers showing that soon they will emerge as a force in the global racing scene. Portugal ended up sending 9 drivers to the decisive stage of the Luso-Brazilian championship cup, while Brazil managed to put 3 drivers in the final 12.

CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

The Championship round is the decider, all previous points were ‘erased’ so everyone started with a clean sleat, per say. The deciding round consists in 4 races where everyone will be in the same race track competing against one another.

RACE 1 - Sandown

Sandown was the first race scheduled to take part in the championship round of the Luso-Brazilian cup. And it was with no suprise that Francisco Pires once again ran away with the win in the race. Suprisingly enough though, he didn’t record the fastest lap, that was made by fellow portuguese Luis Custódio who was the only one under 1 minute 11 secs on the day (1.10.985), but still, he could only finish 5th in the end. Taking everyone a bit by storm it was Rui B. Martins who secured the 2nd spot of the race followed by Carlos Silva, another promissing young driver. That was the pódium in Sandown.

The full results of the Sandown race were:

1. Francisco Pires [POR]
2. Rui B. Martins [POR]
3. Carlos Silva [POR]
4. Fabricio Cruz [POR]
5. Luis Custódio [POR]
6. Jose Oliveira [BRA]
7. Serg Stan [POR]
8. Luis Afonso [POR]
9. Nuno Henriques [POR]
10. Pedro Gomes [POR]
11. Breno Augusto [BRA] *
12. Leonardo Aquino [BRA] *

* denotes no entry in this race.

RACE 2 - Hockenheimring

Race 2 took place in germany, and mr Francisco Pires yet again took firm grasp of that 1st place and won again. This time he also managed the fastest lap on the track, over 0.5 secs faster than the second best lap of the day. He was followed by Fabricio Cruz who took 2nd place and had his first pódium on the championship series, and in 3rd place we had yet again Carlos Silva securing his 2nd pódium in two races.

The full results of the Hockenheimring race were:

1. Francisco Pires [POR]
2. Fabricio Cruz [POR]
3. Carlos Silva [POR]
4. Rui B. Martins [POR]
5. Leonardo Aquino [BRA]
6. Serg Stan [POR]
7. Jose Oliveira [BRA]
8. Luis Afonso [POR]
9. Nuno Henriques [POR]
10. Pedro Gomes [POR]
11. Luis Custódio [POR]
12. Breno Augusto [BRA] *

* denotes no entry in this race.

---

So with two races in the books and two still to go, it seems clear to everyone that unless he has alot of bad luck or gets sabotaged Francisco Pires will win the Luso-Brazilian Championship Cup for the second straight time. But the fight for second place should be fearsed!!! Martins, Cruz and Silva all have the same number of points, and Oliveira, Stan, Custódio and Aquino are all in striking distance, Luis Afonso a bit further away but still can dream, while Nuno Henriques, Pedro Gomes and Breno Augusto would need miracles to pull it off.

CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS
1. Francisco Pires [POR] - 50 Points
2. Rui B. Martins [POR] - 30 Points
2. Fabricio Cruz [POR] - 30 Points
2. Carlos Silva [POR] - 30 Points
5. Jose Oliveira [BRA] - 14 Points
5. Serg Stan [POR] - 14 Points
7. Luis Custódio [POR] - 10 Points
7. Leonardo Aquino [BRA] - 10 Points
9. Luis Afonso [POR] - 8 Points
10. Nuno Henriques [POR] - 4 Points
11. Pedro Gomes [POR] - 2 Points
12. Breno Augusto [BRA] - 0 Points

And that’s all for now, Road Rage will try to update you of the finale of this unnoficial championship cup. We hope you enjoyed the read and we will be back again soon. As always thanks for reading!

Footer: Many thanks to Zeh and Blazefp for taking the time our of their schedules and dedicate it to run this cup and keep everything updated.
