Ezra Sherman Retires at Age 28 to Assist Newcomer Tveter

28 is a pretty young age to retire, even for a racing driver, but former NASC Truck Series, Balkan F3 & 4, Formula E, and Indy Series driver Ezra Sherman has decided to move on. With 122 wins and 623 podiums under his belt, Sherman wants to help younger driver and friend Tanner Tveter climb up the racing ladder.

Sherman was a journeyman type racing driver, going through as many as 3 different series in 3 seasons, and was always competitive in the midfield. "Every series has it's differences from each other in the way the cars work and how the tracks are" Sherman told us. "If I had to choose a favorite, I would have to say the Balkan F4 series. It's not as fast or as high-profile as Formula E or Indy, but the tracks there were different to anything else I've ever raced on." In the Balkan F4 series, he racked up 11 total wins and 32 podiums. At the time, Sherman held a few track records, which have all now been broken. He currently holds the fastest race lap record at Råbelövsbanan in Kristianstad, Sweden for the Formula 4 category.

Sherman's main goal of the Indy Series was realized last season, where he finished 14th in the standings, with 9 top ten finishes, and a grand total of 225 points. "It was fun racing with some of the top guys in motorsport, and it made me realize how much time there is to gain on corners you swear you're going as fast as possible in" he remarked about his sole season in the Indy Series. "I'm so happy I got to fulfil my childhood dream of racing in the Indy Series, even if it was for one season only."

Sherman founded motorsports team Midwest Motorsports out of Fargo, North Dakota last year to help with his Indy Series campaign. This year, however, he is taking a bigger role in the team, and handing the drivers seat over to 20 year old Tanner Tveter. Tveter hails from Honolulu, Hawaii, and is half Norwegian. Tveter's hobbies include fishing, playing American football and baseball, and, of course, racing anything with wheels.

The two met at a karting center two years ago, and Sherman was impressed by his pace on the track. Now, Tveter is ready to make his professional racing debut. "I don't have a set plan of where I would like to end up" said Tveter. "I think Formula 1 is the main goal, but there are some other series out there that sound fun like the GT and Touring Car series." Tveter is planning on competing in the French F4 series this upcoming season to kickstart his racing career.
