Sophmore slump for "The Lip"
In his 2nd season Louis "The Lip" started the first few weeks of the season in a slump, bad breaks both mechanical and driving errors have led to a series of DNF's and low finishes. His frustration was beginning to show until he arrived at Curitibi, a place where in his rookie season he won the pole and both races.
In qualifying he finished 2nd, a promising start for someone who had been lacking in good results. However in the sprint race the choice to go with wet tires instead of the slicks doomed him However in the main event "The Lip" began slowly but surely moving up the ladder. A collision that knocked out Detrick Sanders of the USA help set the stage to complete the comeback. A bad restart on lap 44 caused him to lost a position to OGNJEN JORGIC but passed him on the next lap. On lap 47 he passed fellow american John Neighbors to take 3rd. On lap 50 he passed Great Britains M. Thompson. Finally on the next to last lap in turn 9 he gained the lead by passing Gar Hutchinson of Great Britain and then never looked back until the finish line.
After the race "The Lip" didn't talk in the bragging tone that had become his moniker. Instead exiting the card he gave a deep exhale in relief of what had just taken place. Since then his results have still been mixed but definatly improving. Perhaps the sophmore slump may be ending.
