The Season End In America. F2/F3
Season 10 has been kind to Ray Striver and the guys at Crazy Torque, even the final race went according to plan. A stark contrast to previous seasons spent in Asia. Official Crazy Torque reporter and journalist Mike Raffone was in Austin at the Circuit Of The Americas as the British youngsters parked up post race.
"Well, he pulled it off, Ray has managed to fend off a resurgent Justasarni, to take his tenth podium of the year and secure 3rd in this seasons F2NA title race by just 4pts. Finishing just one race outside of the points in a wet tyre debacle at Laguna. This being Strivers third trophy of the season, and he's very much in the running for a fourth with Maines his main rival for a likely runner up spot in Future Stars Custom.
We were due to catch up with Ray but Krispy Kreme have a stand set up... So he just took the Crazy Torque 4x4 and off-roaded with Biggs to the events promo plaza for wings and donuts... We did however catch his post race press conference where he quoted the following".
"It was tough to judge how to approach the race. I needed to stay quick but not complacent. Arnold was starting 9th and i only had to finish ahead of him. A few mistakes in the pack and i find he's right on my tail in 4th. There was less than a second between us for most of the early running, but delaying my stop by five laps made all the difference, he must have had traffic in the pack as i came out with a six second advantage which was never under threat".
"Striver finds himself over €1,000,000 better off with his third place and significantly elevated in the World Rankings, raking in over 800.00 in the standings and clearing the 2k mark in the final round. A similar success for Biguel who has pocketed 600.00 this season despite a number of misfortunes, securing 5th in the championship and looking strong for silverware in Custom.
Mike Raffone was with the Torque boys to watch RAGE's season close earlier that same day. Media has sparked speculation of acrimony between these two teams. So naturally we poked the fire as Mike asked Ray what he made of RAGE's season:
"When they arrived on the scene i was ready to watch them fail. You can't just arrive with your middle finger in the air and lay claims you can't back up. But fair play to them! They took the fight to the series' reigning champion and beat him fairly. Well done to Bennett for taking the title, its always good to see your home nation succeed. I mean to take nothing away from his title but i can't help but feel that this was Nick Wheelers title, robbed from him with a myriad of failures. Maybe he was cooking his engine? Maybe it was a training issue? But suffering that much misfortune and still taking top 4 is nothing short of miraculous! I've been there, scraping 6th in F3 Asia in Season 8 despite a woeful first half of the season. nwheel has run a great campaign in the media too. I love to see such disregard for media decorum" he laughs.
"But as myself and the out-spoken Biggs eluded to before; where they go now and subsequently what they achieve will be a true indicator of their supposed dominance".
Maines was unavailable for comment as he had underestimated his tolerance for jalapeño chicken wings...
As usual the pair seem in no rush to declare their entry to a series for next season.
