Comunicats de Premsa - Wellington Delivers In Style!

Wellington Delivers In Style!

It has been a well documented season of regret and misfortune for British teenager Jay Wellington as his horrendous run in F3 Eastern Europe went from bad to worse from Week 1. The 19 year old took to the 2nd half of the season with damage limitation in mind, looking to claw his way in to the top ten from a lowly 17th in the championship.

Going in to back to back races in Ukraine, Wellington looked impressive early on in Crimea, but no-one fore-saw him lining up on the front row after qualifying! Many will have expected the youngster to drop back in the race, maybe to salvage a Top 5 finish from Race 1, but the NOVA driver had far bigger ideas, instead challenging for the lead from the far superior Tsaytler on lap one, eventually taking the lead from the Russian as the cars crossed the line in to lap 2. From here, Wellington showed his composure, racing with title contender Tsaytler for the duration of the race, pulling a gap to 3rd until the races only safety car was deployed two laps from the end, leading the cars in formation over the line to the joy, and relief, of his NOVA team and notching his first career series win!

A jubilant Jay spoke to Mike Raffone after the race.

"This is a long, long way from anything we thought possible this season! There was no rain, no pit strategy, no increased aggression, possibly a chassis correction that suited the track, as the LOL's were slower than usual, but the overtake was legit, and the pace was clearly there, i think we were 4th on the time sheet for fastest laps... Race 2 will likely be a struggle, i don't expect to replicate this result, but we'll definitely push for another win!

This monumental result sees Jay eradicate the points deficit to the top 10, and elevates himself to 9th overall, with a sizeable gap to 8th to tackle in the coming weeks.
