Outta Nowhere!!

The increasing allure of one of MRC'S tightest and most open series ramped up a notch today as the Indy Jr International circus touched down for the first time in Europe, and it was series newcomer Ray Striver who made the most of the almost-home soil in France to storm to an unprecedented pole.

Having qualified no better than 4th in the previous six races, Striver was openly admitting he may have made an error in jumping from F2, all of this trepidation was cast aside on Monday as his black and white machine set an early benchmark over 0.800 ahead of an early outing by Aquino. To whit nobody came within a tenth, which is quite a margin by Oval standards.

The series itself has proven wide open so far with five different winners taking the top step. Aleshin leads the way in the championship from Italian Luigi Capeta, the only man to have won on more than one occasion so far. Other winners include race one winner Kryazin and the two latest victors, 20 year old Vukoviic and Finlands Suhonen who held on to a very slender lead from Vukoviic and a late stopping, light fuelled Striver as the three crossed the line separated by less than a second.

Wednesdays race at Linas-Montlhéry Oval looks set to shake the championship up a fair bit with championship leader Aleshin starting a surprise 18th and 2nd place Capeta starting 5th.
