Bad week for Lyn
The start of the week showed great promise for Lyn. Qualifying third meant she had a great shot to score big points in Estoril. And in the 11th lap of the first race she had a gap of more than 12 seconds to Bruno Costa who was 4th at the time. A podium finish appeared assured. But when Alex Silva crashed after a battle with Antonia Craque, the safety car came out and everyone got bunched up.
When the safety car left in lap 17 things looked to be improving for the young Dutch driver. She managed to keep up with Anibal Constâncio who was in second. Johnny Da Costa Jr was getting away from both of them and it was all but certain that he'd finish first.
But then everything fell in place for Anibal in lap 20. Johnny made a big mistake in section 14 and Anibal instantly capitalized on the mistake by passing him. Lyn was on Johnny's tail almost right away. But try as she might she couldn't pass him.
In lap 21 she pushed too hard and overshot a corner and dropped back all the way to 8th. While she managed to fight her way back up to 6th, it was clearly a disappointing result.
The second race was a disaster, with Lyn crashing her car in the second lap.
"It's a real shame." Lyn told us after the race. "I had really good pace, but I made a few key mistakes. I feel like I could have won a race this weekend, so that makes it even harder to swallow."
When we asked her if she was going to take anything away from this weekend, she added the following. "I messed up this weekend. The guys just beat me out there. But I reaffirmed that I'm really close. I know my results might not seem stellar, but I feel like I'm growing every day."
We also asked Lyn about the rookie series and the race between Knight and Wheeler. "I've been racing against Knight in the Far-Far East series. In 9 races I haven't managed to beat him once. I was close a few times, mind you. It's become clear to me that Knight is the real deal. He's inexperienced in F3 but still manages to deliver amazing results."
When asked if this meant that Knight was faster than her, she smiled. "He was faster in Asia at least. But just because he's younger and fast doesn't mean I won't be able to beat him in the future. He's going to have to train hard if he expects to defeat me in the future."
